Port Douglas Community Hall, a multi-function centre and meeting place, enjoys flexibility within its articulated spaces, wide verandahs and linear forms achieving a broad range of expansive and functional needs. The centre has been designed to cover both local and tourism requirements as a conference, yoga, wedding and banquet venue, or as a meet and gripe with the local Councillor. It has an area catering for 4 to 450 people in a series of meeting rooms and a larger auditorium.
Set at the edge of the town centre in a Port Douglas community park, the main auditorium and entry lobby is approached by a slight incline, with the building placed as a lowset traditional Queenslander atop a gentle rise. More casual and intimate entries face diagonally to the corner of the park and the more residential parts of the town.
An expansive terraced amphitheatre and outdoor undercover pre-function space is surrounded by an arboretum of indigenous trees.
